Prejudice, By, The Merchant Of Venice, And Real World...

Prejudice Imagine living in barracks, starved, then gassed because of your religion. Getting accused of raping someone because of your skin tone, then getting put in prison. Or getting spat upon because you’re a Jew. All of these things occurred in some point in history, and we are shown what this is like through novels, plays and book such as; â€Å"To Kill a Mockingbird†, â€Å"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian†, â€Å"The Merchant of Venice†, and real world occurrences such as the Holocaust. Today I will be talking to you about the ways that prejudice is portrayed in all four of the novels, plays and historic time marks. In â€Å"To Kill a Mockingbird†, Atticus is given a case where he needs to defend Tom Robinson, who’s accused guilty†¦show more content†¦Many people assume that Indians live in bad households, and yes, typically that’s true. But when Junior goes to Reardan, he sees how lucky he is to have parents who care about him. â€Å"-and seen how great parents do their great parenting, I realize that my folks are pretty good. Sure, my dad has a drinking problem and my mom can be a little eccentric, but they make sacrifices for me. They worry about me. The talk to me. And best of all, they listen to me.† (Alexie, 153). He sees that even though his family is the typical Indian family- poor, drunk, and low class- they still care a lot about him. He also says; â€Å"I mean, yeah, Indians are screwed up, but we’re really close to each other. We KNOW each other. Everybody knows everybody.† (Alexie, 153). He shows that yeah, Indian’s are really messed up. We really don’t take care of ourselves or other people, but when people are in need of each other, they’re there. They’re all one family. This breaks the stereotype, of Indians being nothing more than poor and drunk. They all have a much better relationship with each other, and they’re all connected. Our next example is â€Å"The Merchant of Venice†, a play. This in a way is foreshadowing of what’s to come, the Holocaust. The Jews are treated terribly and have a very valid reason to be angry. The Jews are treated differently because they are scapegoats for everyone- they have been getting blamed from the beginning, starting with Jesus dying on the cross. This cause

The social ecological framework was presented in class as providing many possible avenues for research and program implementation. Using the required readings and lectures, write about the pros and cons of a social ecological framework for understanding health behaviors and designing health promotion programs. Your analysis should lead to a conclusion about the framework. The social ecological framework comprises of person-focused and environment-focused interventions designed to promote health. There are some challenges, as well, in implementing health promotion programs that use the social ecological framework. One main challenge is that programs are expensive and complex to implement in certain community settings. Also, there needs to be close coordination and collaboration between individuals and groups. In the article by Wagemakers et al., the authors developed a framework that links the domains of social environment and health, with key health predicting mediators, and operational variables of participation and collaboration (6). They based this framework on experience in case studies, audits of community health programs in the Netherlands, and ideas found in the literature. The authors offer four key guidelines on how to apply the framework that can help increase community participation and collaboration. These guidelines are: use the variables as a menu, set specific aims for social change processes, use an action research approach and triangulate data. This framewor k can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of community health promotion designs and address the challenges faced in implementing new programs. In conclusion, the social ecological

High Emotions That Are Masking The True Focus Of This...

In this scenario, there are obviously high emotions that are masking the true focus of this committee meeting. There are a few concerns that was brought to my attention in the way this meeting was being conducted and in the way it was organized from the beginning. When there are meetings that involve the public and any form of public officials not everyone will act accordingly, or respectfully, due to the many different viewpoints and beliefs that everyone has. In order to set the tone of the meeting, beforehand, community letters with the agenda should be distributed to the parents and throughout the community setting the expectation that this meeting will be conducted in a respectable, and professional manner, only highlighting the†¦show more content†¦Location is key. The school’s cafeteria would be ideal with refreshments and snacks available to make it a more pleasant and comfortable meeting. The source of power throughout this meeting will be the officials involved. These officials consist of school administrators, school security guards, juvenile justice squad of the city law enforcement agency, and teachers. During this meeting each representative must present their observations, viewpoints and possible solutions. This allows the people in attendance, such as the parents and community, to see the importance of this issue from many different vantage points rather than just one. By having each representative present their observations and feedback keeps the authority equalized across the board. This is very crucial because the community, parents, and students need to see that the administration and officials involved are well-structured behind the scenes with multiple resources available. Having individuals and departments from different areas of expertise will always keep ideas fresh and open to constructive criticism. As ideas of possible solutions arise, there will be â€Å"push-back† from people with different viewpoints. Let us take the idea of installing video cameras into the school as an example. Many officials, faculty, parents and students will think it will a great addition to monitor the schools daily activity and to possibly deter gang activities and vandalism but,Show MoreRelatedHuman Resource Development at 3m7996 Words   |  32 Pagesdecision making. 3M, design and implement the effective HRD programs that is define the targets, make the decision, selecting the trainer and methods of the training, preparing the lesson and material and then scheduling the HRD programs. 3M accept as true that, of all the pathways to growth, investing in our people is most important. Liberty Leading the People painting analysis Essay Example For Students

Liberty Leading the People painting analysis Essay Analysis Painting Analysis Ideas of freedom are represented in this painting (Liberty Leading the People, Eugene Delicacies) in many different ways. Freedom is represented very plainly in the title as Liberty means being free or being free from society, The woman wants her people to be free from the government and free from oppression. The image of the woman rising above the enemy in a powerful stance upon the body f her people represents freedom and liberty because she is fighting for what she wants and what she believes in despite the threat against her and her life. The protagonists of the painting are a woman and a child, stereotypically women and children are seen to be weaker than men and unable to stand up and fight for what they believe in but this painting is using that idea to show the true power Of the longing to be free. Prance is also represented in this painting through he woman holding up the French flag and the Tripoli making up the sky above Notre Dame. Known as a country that has revolted, known mainly to a younger audience due to the musical Less Miserable, France is a particularly powerful representation of Liberty and Freedom. Color and Salience have been used by the artist to first draw our eye to the woman, dressed in yellow a color that symbolizes anger, happiness and illness; these can lead different people to draw efferent meaning from the painting, The stance of the woman is yet another symbolism of freedom, she stands tall and open not hiding anything or holding back, Raising the flag above her head it almost looks like an act of defiance but could also be seen as an attempt to show the people that they are all from the same country, they should not be fighting, Overall this painting, using symbolism, language, salience and historical meaning, demonstrates the ideas of Freedom in a very strong and prominent fashion,
